As many of you know since many years, Muslim women have been questioned about wearing veils. Not only in France, also in other European countries like Spain or the United Kingdom.
Most of the European people are against that the Muslims wear this kind of clothes, and also they aren’t agree of building mosques in their cities because most of them are Christians and they don’t want to be “invaded” for their religion. This notice tells us that France is the first country in Europe to ban these veils; people can’t go for a walk in the street wearing a veil or they will have to pay a fine of 150€ more or less. Also police can ask for the identification of the person and can bring them to the police station if she doesn’t want to take off her veil.
On the other hand Muslim people are totally against this law, because they defend the idea that the street is a free place where everybody can dress what they want, without laws. Many Muslims are creating many protests and manifestations (like in Notre Dame Cathedral) to express they disagreement to everybody.
This week French police arrested around 60 people during many protests of this topic. Muslim people are really angry with this new law, because they say that it’s a religious act and this is totally freedom.
· What do you think about this new law? Are you agree or disagree?
· Do you think this new law can have bad impacts on French society and also in Europe?
I totally agree to ban the veil in the streets of France. I think that wearing the veil is an act of offense to the others because they are not being recognized from the others citizens and also for the police.
ResponderEliminarI think as well that the streets of France and also the streets of all around the world are free for everybody, but with some limitations because if everybody could do what they want, there will be anarchy in the streets. If they want to wear the veil in their countries for me it’s ok because they are in their country with their culture and their traditions, but if they come here to “look” for a job I think that they have to adapt to our culture, our traditions, our language... For example, if you go to one Arabic country and you want to enter into a mosque or to an official building, and moreover you’re a woman, you must put a veil to enter. Why we have to follow their rules and they don’t follow us?
In my opinion this law it has to be at least also in Spain to regulate all this and more strict.
An interesting and controversial topic.

Why DO we have to follow their rules and they don’t follow OURS?
Nice topic Santi! As Emilee said, this is a controversial subject to discuss. Both parties feel attacked by the other, Muslims feel that we are against them, their culture and religion, and we feel shocked and resentful when we see women dressed with niqab or burqa in our streets.
ResponderEliminarI don’t want to offend anybody or any religious beliefs, but I think that we shouldn’t allow this here, maybe only the veil. But then on indoor places like high schools, universities, etc…it should be prohibited. Furthermore, we also see this as disrespect towards women; it comes from a male chauvinist society. So I mean, we don’t like seeing women dressed with niqab or burqa, or even wearing veil, and when we see them we begin to think about how nowadays this is still happening.
So, from standpoint, I think that France has done a good job by instituting this new law. As Albert says, everybody has to adapt to the culture, traditions and language of the territory, and if you don’t do it, you will be excluded from the society.
